Episode Five – Wednesday 23rd November 2016

Wendi

Our bride Wendi had never worn a wedding dress, or set foot in a bridal store, even though this was her second time. Leesa loves helping second time brides, “Finding their dream gown is very special,” she said.

Wendi was joined by her best friend and four children. She knew what she didn’t want, it was a definite no to ball gowns and tulle. Wendi preferred a straight and elegant silhouette with a hint of sexy. She did not want to be mutton dressed as lamb! It’s was important to get right dress which made her feel comfortable, beautiful and glamorous.

Wendi never thought she would marry again. Before she met fiancé Colin, she was a single mother, and self confessed man-hating career woman. Colin turned her around, and she could not believe that she was standing in a bridal store! After four children, Wendi felt that her body wasn’t it was before kids, and was worried about the gowns would look on her.

Wendi tried on the Allure Bridals 8800 – This 2 piece bridal gown features a charmeuse slip and lace appliqué overlay adorned with embroidery and crystals. It was very flattering.

Leesa described Wendi as “Very hot!” in the gown, her waist and hips looked gorgeous, the gown eventuated her hourglass figure. The kids loved giving their opinions and enjoyed seeing their mum playing dress up. Adam suggested a strapless gown for something different, Wendi wasn’t convinced but agreed to give it a try.

They tried on Allure Romance 2709 – This gown is a dramatic composition of lace and a striking trumpet silhouette with slight pleating at the skirt. It suited her figure perfectly and Wendi instantly felt more comfortable. However, the colour was too traditional for her. Wendi’s son Harry, suggested a sweetheart neckline might be a better option.

Wendi voiced her concerns about looking too much like a bride. Adam and Leesa pointed out that she was a bride, she was Colin’s bride, and have every right to be a bride! “For once Wendi, it can all be about you!” Said Adam. He suggested an A line gown by Eddy K, which he thought would be ideal for Wendi.

Eddy K EK1018 – WOW! Is all you can say when you see yourself in an Eddy K bridal gown. Designed in Milan, the fashion capital of the world, and manufactured with the highest quality fabrics, Eddy K has the perfect wedding gown for every bride. From sophisticated couture gowns to elegant destination dresses, Eddy K’s attention to detail flatters all figures and offers styles for any taste.

Wendi smiled when she looked in the mirror. It was just perfect for her, pure elegance, sex appeal and sophistication. “She has absolutely no idea how good her body is,” remarked Leesa.

It looked phenomenal and the sweetheart neckline was perfection. Harry had got it right! The kids agreed that Colin’s jaw would drop when he sees her. She said absolutely YES TO THE DRESS. Everything else fell into place once Wendi found her gown.

Tess

“Brides come in all shapes and sizes, and ages. Whether it’s a first time bride or second time around the post, marriage isn’t exclusively for the young.” – Adam.

Photographer Tess, was joined by her 2 daughters and friend at Brides of Sydney. Tess wanted to look stylish elegant with a bit of sparkle on her wedding day. She had a budget of $2000 and Rosalie was excited to start shopping! The couple of times she had ventured into a bridal store, the sales staff had incorrectly assumed that she was the mother of the bride. Tess was nervous, but was glad to have her daughters with her for support.

Tess tried on a sparkly Eddy K gown first. The girls liked the top, but thought the bottom was a bit full, and didn’t show off her gorgeous figure. They decided to take more of a risk and try something with a bit of sass!

“Wait til you see this!” Said Adam as Tess came out of the change room. Tess was in the Allure Bridals 9254. With the embroidered sheath and finished with a wealth of organza ruffles at the hem, this gown was a showstopper!

9254 Allure Bridals Bridal Gown 9254 Allure Bridals Bridal Gown

“Oh wow!” Said the girls. They loved the champagne and ivory colour, the lace, the sparkle and bust line. It was elegant with old Hollywood glamour. Tess however, felt the colour was too classic; she just wasn’t feeling it and wanted something with a bit more excitement.

They tried on the Allure Bridals 9317. Softly tucked tulle adds dimensional ruffle to the hemline of this pleated sheath gown. From the moment Tess came out of the changeroom, everyone knew this was the one. The colour was perfect, and the girls were speechless. She looked like a million dollars!

Tess had always does so much for everyone else, so deserved to look like a queen on her wedding day. Looking beautiful as an older woman is about embracing who you are, what you look and feel like. We are so glad that Wendi said YES to her perfect dress.

Shannon

Shannon came in with her sister to meet with Veronica our dressmaker. She hadn’t tried her gown on for three months, and was hoping that it still fitted the same way it the last time.

Shannon had chosen the Allure Romance 2667. This gorgeous fit and flare shaped bridal gown has a fitted bodice with a sweetheart neckline embellished with Swarovski crystals. The entire design is adorned with delicate lace appliqué on English net.

The good news was that Shannon loved her dress just as much as the day she had chosen it, if not more! Veronica was concerned about the bust line and length, but assured Shannon that she would be able to alter it to perfection. And she absolutely did. Shannon said she felt really beautiful, like a princess. Her husband said it was the best thing he’d seen in his life!

Congratulations Shannon and Anthony, we hope your wedding day was everything you imagined it would be.

Episode Three – Wednesday 9th November 2016

Sarah

Sarah visited Brides of Sydney with her fiancé/husband, Simon and mother in law, Gail. With a budget of $6000, our brilliant Sevi had a few ideas in mind.

Sarah was not sure what kind of gown Simon would like to see her in, but thought he might like something figure hugging. First Sarah tried on the Sophia Tolli Sultana – Misty tulle, diamond tulle and delicate allover lace with hand-beaded lace appliqués modified sheath bridal gown, slight cap sleeves, beaded Queen Anne neckline, sheer V-back bodice framed with lace appliqués and back zipper both trimmed with diamante buttons, scalloped hem lace, chapel length train.

sultana

Gail loved the strapless look, but thought it looked a bit bare on the top. Sevi suggested they put the straps on the gown which, Simon liked better. Sarah felt pretty, but wanted something a little more playful and dramatic.

Sarah tried on the Allure Couture C388. This magnificent sleeveless gown channeled the opulent glamour of the 1920s.

allure_couture_bridal_gown_c388f allure_couture_bridal_gown_c388h

Sarah loved the antique gold colour, but Simon always envisaged Sarah wearing white on her wedding day, the colour wasn’t what he expected. When Sarah turned around to show them the back, their jaws dropped, it certainly was spectacular! Simon felt that he was looking at the dress on Sarah and not Sarah in the dress and they decided to take it down a notch.

Adam suggested Allure Bridals 8955 – This romantic bridal gown is created from layers of soft organza. The bodice features a sweetheart neckline with lace, while the waistline has a satin band with a sparkling appliqué. There were instant tears from Gail, which was a good sign for Sarah. Simon adored it, “She looks beautiful, confident, happy and at one with the dress she is wearing” he said.

Sarah could see herself walking down the isle in the dress. It was a definite YES TO THE DRESS and she cried a few happy tears. Simon said he was privileged to share this special moment with Sarah and it was beautiful a preview of their upcoming wedding day.

Caitlin

Caitlin, from Western Sydney, visited Brides of Sydney with her Fiancé Kira. The girls were planning a garden ceremony in Australia, but having their legal wedding in New Zealand. Caitlin wanted a simple gown with sweetheart neckline and some subtle sparkle. Her number one requirement was that and did not want to look like a meringue! She was concerned that she would not be able to find a dress in her size and really wanted a gown that made her feel wonderful. “My job is to make Caitlin feel safe, comfortable and beautiful,” said Sue.

“Oh wow, I have a waist!” said Caitlin when she put on the Allure Romance 2809. This bridal gown is for the lover of all things feminine. It features a floral patterned lace, tulle and a gorgeous Swarovski crystal accent. Kira and Caitlin had different opinions, Kira did not like the lace or the buttons.

2809 Allure Romance Bridal Gown 2809 Allure Romance Bridal Gown

Next Caitlin tried on the Allure Women W350 – There is always a place in our hearts for a classic tulle ballgown, and this is no exception – proof that you never play with perfection. Her bridesmaids loved the cut and subtle detail. The straps helped her feel secure and comfortable. Kira could not pick her jaw up off the floor, she is not often lost for words.

Caitlin felt the gown was a bit too full on the bottom. “If you’re not feeling it, try on another dress, that’s what we’re here for!” Said Adam.

There was one gown that caught Caitlin’s eye on the way in that she was just dying to try on. Allure Bridals 8769 – Signature Allure embroidery and Swarovski crystals make this bridal gown stunning. The fitted bodice features a sweetheart neckline, ruched organza, and rich embellishment throughout. “Holey moley!” said Kira. This gown accentuated Caitlin’s curves and she looked stunning. Caitlin instantly felt like a bride, confident and pretty. She felt ready to walk down the isle, see Kira there and start their happily ever after. It was a resounding YES TO THE DRESS from everyone.

Shirly

Stay at home mum, Shirley, came in to Brides of Sydney with her parents for her final fitting. With only 3 days to go until the wedding, she was worried that her Eddy K gown would not fit correctly. When she had first tried it on it was slightly big for her, however being pregnant now added to the challenge.

ak120_close ak120

Veronica made all the required alterations to the gown, so that it fit her flawlessly. Shirley and David, were married during a beautiful sunset ceremony by the harbor. Shirley absolutely glowed in her gown, and it fit her like a glove. Congratulations Shirley and David, we hope you had a magical wedding day!

Episode One – Wednesday 26 October 2016

Morgan

Twenty seven year old teacher, Morgan, joined by her large entourage of aunties and cousins, visited Brides of Sydney to choose her dream wedding gown.

Morgan had a budget of $3000 and wanted a flowing, mermaid style gown to suit her rustic wedding in Mudgee. Her mum however wanted a strapless, slinky, figure hugging and backless gown – the complete opposite of what Morgan wanted! Morgan’s aunties wanted to see the tattoos of her dead cat and sister’s names on her back covered. Sharon and Adam definitely had their work cut out for them!

First, Morgan tried on gown from the Allure Woman’s collection. This collection offers a stunning collection of wedding dresses which are perfect for our curvy brides. She loved the “bling” on the top, and it managed to cover up the tattoos. However, it was not enough coverage for Aunty Kath, who wanted to see Morgan in a more classic look.

Sharon is a strong and vibrant bridal consultant who has worked in the industry for thirty years. As a mum of six, she brings warmth, knowledge and a sense of calm in her role when dealing with brides to be. Sharon was pleased that Morgan was open to trying on a variety of styles. They tried on the mermaid style, Allure Women W372. It has delicate Swarovski beadwork, which adds dimension to this strapless tulle gown.

Once again, it was too revealing for Morgan’s conservative aunties! Pleasing Morgan’s family was really proving to be quite the challenge, but Adam and Sharon persevered and suggested Morgan try the Allure Women W377. With it’s delicate mermaid silhouette, it was at once, glamorous and figure-flattering! She immediately felt like a bride and knew this was the one. Sharon and Adam could tell as soon as she put it on, that she was in love. Morgan’s mum even shed a few tears. “When you see a mum tearing up, you know you’re on point” said Adam. It was a resounding YES TO THE DRESS from the entire entourage!

Congratulations Morgan, you looked amazing in your gown. We can’t wait to see you and Jeff all dressed up in your wedding day photographs. The Brides of Sydney team did a great job working though all the different opinions, and managed to please everyone, especially Morgan!

Talina

Twenty-two year old, mum of two Talina, was very excited to visit Brides of Sydney with her sisters. With a maximum budget of $2500, Leesa and Adam needed to find the perfect “big puffy, sparkly, really out there” gown for Talina.

Talina tried on Y21246 by Sophia Tolli first. This is a strapless lace and tulle, fit and flare gown has exquisite hand-placed lace covering the bodice. It’s pleated tulle adds detail to an uncomplicated skirt, and it is accentuated with trailing lace appliqués that wistfully fade out before the hem. It has a satin belt with flower detail, corset back and chapel length train. Talina immediately loved the lace and wanted to get an opinion from her sisters.

y21246

There were plenty of “wows” when she came out of the dressing room, however they thought it was not doing justice to her fantastic figure.

Talina spotted a gown on a mannequin and absolutely fell in love, however it was quite a way out of her budget at $RRP4499, but she decided to try it on anyway. The SOPHIA TOLLI Y11652 is a two-piece lace and misty tulle wedding dress set. It has a strapless sweetheart lace sheath with lightly hand-beaded lace appliqués placed in a shadowbox method and a court length train. The detachable misty tulle full A-line overskirt with beaded belt and chapel length train complete the set.

y11652day4110616final y11652day4120683

When she saw herself in the mirror, she knew this gown was the one. She felt like a princess with the big tulle and fitted body and did not want to take it off! Loving it was far easier than actually paying for it. Her heart dropped when she heard the price. Hoping to find a second love, Talina tried on an the Allure Bridals 9250. The gorgeous mermaid shape,  fabric colour and feminine, soft lace ticked all the boxes. Her sisters loved it as well, but there wasn’t enough sparkle for Talina.

9250 Allure Bridals Bridal Gown 9250 Allure Bridals Bridal Gown

They loved the Allure Bridals gown, but loved the Sophia Tolli still had all their hearts.

Leesa has worked in the bridal industry for almost 20 years and isn’t afraid to tell it as it is. She loves helping her brides to be, and often mothers and protects them. She managed to find a way to get Talina the gown of her dreams, but at a price that she could afford. Talina once again tried on the Sophia Tolli Y11652, this time without the overskirt. Her sisters faces said it all, they were all over the moon to see her in the dress. With the overskirt taken off, it was only just over the budget, and worth every cent. We are so happy that Talina said YES TO HER DRESS! It’s exactly what she pictured herself walking down the isle in and we think it’s the perfect gown for her.

y11652day4100554

Congratulations Talina, We hope that finally got proposal you’ve been waiting for!

Episode Four – Wednesday 16th November 2016

Alison

“Some brides think about their wedding for years, and they’ve got a really strong view of what their dress should look like. But when they bring too many people, all of those voices often drown out the person who we really need to listen to, and that’s the bride!” – Adam

Alison visited Brides of Sydney with 3 bridesmaids, her mother in law, 2 sister in laws, and her adopted mum. Her’s mum passed away when Alison was 19 years old, and she wanted to make sure she chose a gown that she knew her mum would have loved.

Alison was planning the wedding ceremony at the stunning St Mary’s Cathedral in Hyde Park. She had some rough ideas about what she wanted her gown to look like, but was not sure which direction to go in. On one hand, she was considering a big ballgown and on the other, she quite liked the idea of a fitted gown with lace. “She can be quite indecisive,” said her bridesmaid, so hence brought everyone along for their greatly valued opinions. Adam was worried that having this many voices would confuse Alison, she may want to try to please everyone, except herself. With a budget of around $5000, Sharon and Adam were both confident they could work their way through the choices, and find something that Alison would truly adore.

First they tried a classic ball gown, the Casablanca Couture B081. The bodice and skirt on this gown feature all over embroidered appliques on tulle. It has a modified sweetheart neckline with inverted ruching, which adds softness to the front and back bodice. A beautifully beaded applique with an array of Swarovski Crystals, rhinestones, and pearls sits at the natural waist of this ball gown skirt. Crystal buttons finish the back of the bodice.

B081 Casablanca Couture Wedding Dress B081 Casablanca Couture Wedding Dress

This gown is perfect for a cathedral wedding, but now it was time to see what everyone thought. Alison liked the fabric, the beautiful belt and champagne colour. Reactions to the colour and silhouette were mixed, so they decided to try something completely different.

Sharon suggested the Allure Romance 2814. Nothing looks better with a sleek bridal gown than sparkling, dramatic embroidery. This satin wedding gown was no exception! Alison instantly loved it and wanted to see what her entourage thought.

2814 Allure Romance Bridal Gown 2814CB_Allure_Romance_Bridal_Gown

They loved the back and the gorgeous neckline, they made a unanimous decision that the ball gown was out, and a slinky dress was in! Alison was worried that the satin fabric may show any lumps and bumps, so they decided to try something in a similar silhouette but different fabric.

Adam had an idea of a gown that combined everything that everyone wanted! He suggested Alison try on the Allure Couture C291. This dreamy lace wedding gown features a subtle train and deep V back, as well as delicate beading throughout the wedding gown.

C291 Allure Couture Bridal Gown C291 Allure Couture Bridal Gown

Adam pointed out, “People are staring at your back for a long time in a church, so it’s important to make it a really nice feature.” Alison loved that this was a really easy and fun dress to wear, she could dance and have a good time and always look great doing it. The addition of a veil sealed the deal, it was perfect! Alison remembered that her mum had worn a lacy dress on her own wedding day, which reminded Alison of this gown. It was a resounding YES to the dress, as everyone including Sharon shed a few tears!

Congratulations on finding your dream gown Alison, we know your mum would be so proud of you.

Ann Maree

Ann Maree, a doctor and self confessed fitness fanatic came into Brides of Sydney to find her dream dress. She described it as sophisticated, elegant, flowing yet form fitting, and definitely sexy! Her budget was around $5000 – $6000, but would go higher for the perfect dress. Anne Maree was joined by her mother, mother in law and three friends.

“Mum is very conservative, and would like to see me in a Kate Middleton style gown,” confessed Anne Maree. Rosalie was concerned that Ann Maree was is untimely the one wearing the dress, and it’s her day, so hoped they could find something perfect.

Adam agreed to start with a gown to satisfy Ann Maree’s mum and go from there. They tried on the Sophie Tolli Y21518- Brandyn. An Aurora chiffon a line wedding dress with hand-beaded sheer cap sleeves and bateau neckline, sweetheart bodice with vintage inspired embroidery and sparkling crystal beading, sheer back bodice with V-neckline, chapel length train and back zipper trimmed with diamante buttons.

Designer Wedding Dresses by Sophia Tolli

“That’s lovely!” said Mum. Everyone thought it was beautiful, but her bridesmaids admitted that it was a bit conservative and didn’t show off Ann Maree’s amazing assets! “Enough with Kate middleton!” Said Anne Marie.

Next Ann Maree tried on Eddy K – CT143 – This wedding dress has hand beading and embroidery from top to bottom over champagne tulle, with a satin lining underneath it. Adam liked to call it the Gatsby gown. It was dazzling, unique and glamorous, with just a touch of vintage.

CT143 Eddy K Wedding Dress CT143 Eddy K Wedding Dress

Everyone loved the gown, but were all talking at once, Ann Maree didn’t know who to listen to! Poor Ann Maree was confused, she was now second guessing everything. Adam just needed to show her something else, to make her realise that the Gatsby gown is the one for her.

They tried on the Allure Bridals 8800 – This 2 piece bridal gown features a charmeuse slip and lace appliqué overlay adorned with embroidery and crystals.

8800 Allure Bridals 8800 Allure Bridals

“To me the standout is still the Gatsby dress,” said Adam. He suggested she try on the Eddy K – CT143 again because it was covered enough to keep mum happy, and sexy enough to keep Adam happy!

After they put it on again, it just felt right. Adding accessories, like the veil and bouquet gave everyone goosebumps. “YES!” said mum, this reaction confirmed that this was the one. Her friends and family were ecstatic.

Congratulations Ann Marie, we wish yourself and Lee all the very best for your wedding day, you are going to look spectacular!

Courtney

Courtney from Newcastle came to see Veronica for her final fitting. Her mum along with bridesmaid Gemma joined her. Courtney had been on a long journey to find the gown of her dreams, trying on over 60 or 70 dresses before she found the one.

The gown that she chose was Allure Bridals 8769 – Signature Allure embroidery and Swarovski crystals make this bridal gown stunning. The fitted bodice features a sweetheart neckline, ruched organza, and rich embellishment throughout. It was the one Courtney and her Mum cried over. It made her feel confident and gave her a great shape.

8769 Allure Bridals 8769 Allure Bridals Bridal Gown

During the fitting, Veronica agreed that the gown needed to be taken up at the bottom, some beading on the bodice needed to be removed under her arms and Courtney also wanted to add a few details to the skirt. Veronica made sure that all her requests were possible, and the gown was everything she’d ever dreamed of and more.

Courtney and her fiancé Nick were high school sweethearts; she had been waiting 10 years for her wedding day to arrive! Nick was overwhelmed with excitement and joy when he saw her walking down the isle. It had taken her so many dresses to find the perfect one, but it finally happened, and 10 years later she is having her perfect day also. Congratulations Courtney, you were stunning!

Episode Two – Wednesday 2 November 2016

Vanessa

Vanessa, and her big Italian family do everything together and wedding gown shopping at Brides of Sydney was no exception!

With a moody, enchanted, forest theme wedding on the cards, Vanessa pictured herself in a fitted gown, sintched at the waist with some subtle lace detail. Being Catholic and due to have the ceremony in a Church, Vanessa’s mum was keen for the dress to be modest, yet also show off Vanessa’s beautiful figure. Vanessa’s Aunty however, would prefer to see her in something sexy, but not too sexy… “Sexy is for later!” said Mum. Vanessa’s family were going to be honest and brutal, Leesa definitely had a challenge on her hands.

Determined to please her Mum, Vanessa tried on Allure Bridals 9260. With beautiful scalloped lace edges the neckline and a sheer illusion panel accents the back, we can’t decide if we love the front or back of this gown the most! “I did want her to cover up…” Mum said, but the rest of Vanessa’s family felt that the gown was a little bit too covered.

Vanessa then tried on Allure Romance 2803. A textural lace bodice and smooth taffeta skirt are the perfect pair for this architectural mermaid bridal gown. Vanessa loved the waistline, and was excited to show the girls. There were lots of WOWs when Vanessa walked out of the dressing room. Vanessa loved the bodice and satin skirt, but was not in love with the gown.

Taking a page out of Audrey Hepburn’s book, Vanessa tried on the Madison James MJ103. This satin wedding gown has a striking focal point, the double keyhole back, complete with playful jeweled bows. Her mum loved this dress! It showed off Vanessa’s curves and was classic, yet slinky. Mum was worried that the statement back could be a little bit low, and the priest may have a heart attack during the ceremony! “Do you love this gown enough?” asked Leesa. As much as she loved the bottom, Vanessa was not sure about the top, and could not say Yes to the dress. Unfortunately Vanessa did not find her dream dress this time, so off they went to get some burgers.

Good luck Vanessa we hope you find the gown of your dreams. Wishing you and David a wonderful wedding day.

Kira

“Whether you’ve got $1000 or $10000, every bride should feel like a princess when they’re looking for their wedding gown. I really love when I put a dress on somebody, and you can just see in their face, they can’t believe how beautiful they look.” – Adam

Kira, a 28 year old primary school teacher from Central Coast NSW, visited Brides of Sydney with her sister and bridesmaids. She, and fiancé Joseph were planning an intimate wedding with close family and friends at Harbourview in Newcastle. Kira was looking for a gown that showed off her curves, but wanted to remain quite covered on top. With a budget of only $1000, Rosalie admitted that, “it’s going to be a bit difficult!”

Wedding gowns come in all shapes and sizes, and of course a range of budgets as well. However out of a thousand gowns at Brides of Sydney, only eight were within her budget, and of these eight, only three were in Kira’s size. Everyone was crossing their fingers that Kira fell in love with one of these three gowns!

The first two sample gowns were almost there, but not perfect. Then came the third sample, a beautiful strapless A line, looked amazing on Kira. Rosalie did her hair up, put a beautiful veil on, and there were tears all round when Kira walked out of the dressing room. “A bride knows the moment it goes over body, she knows when it is right.” Said Rosalie. The dress was immaculate on her, everything from the draping around waist, to the interest and drama on bottom and the modest bust line. At $999 it could not have been more perfect.

Meredith

Meredith, from North Sydney visited Brides of Sydney for her final fitting. She brought her friends along to give their opinions on her chosen gown. Prior to this, she had been very secretive, so her friends were in for a surprise! Meredith chose the beautiful Allure Bridals 9114. The highlight of this bridal gown is the sheer-illusion back and neckline, sprinkled with embroidery and beading. The slight cap sleeve, gauzy English net skirt and lace appliqué complete this gown.

9114 Allure 9114 Allure

During the fitting, Meredith felt the gown fitted well at the bottom, but the top was a little big. It was time for Veronica, our expert dressmaker to work her magic.

The alterations to the gown were perfect and Meredith felt amazing in it, like she was walking on air!
“When I saw Meredith in the dress for the first time, I thought she looked absolutely stunning,” said husband Scott.
Congratulations Meredith and Scott, we hope you had a magnificent wedding day.
